About the Role

There is a growing demand for analysis of a wide range of information and data on the performance of Amnesty International within the new strategic period.

We’re looking for an analyst to join the team with at least 2 years of experience.  This role will help manage, support and improve our growing data and information service delivered by the Global Strategy and Impact Programme as well as supporting the portfolio management office, working with project managers to ensure that the work they are delivering is reflected accurately in the portfolio.

This role will help manage, monitor and understand data on the work which the organisation delivers and will help improve the quality of this data. By bringing together diverse organisational and external data, conducting analysis, supporting the delivery of high standard reporting and insights to senior decision makers and teams across the organisation we can help ensure a more effective delivery of Amnesties strategic framework and achieve greater human rights impact.

You’ll perform regular quality checks of our data sets, identify and bring together new datasets useful for the measurement of impact, improve on the effectiveness of our data collection initiatives, and will work with project managers to ensure that work is recorded properly.  You will also support in documentation of data processes and workflows.

This role will support in the management of the portfolio, helping managers and directors to understand how their work fits into the portfolio and you will help to respond to queries related to the portfolio ensuring that correct processes and controls are followed by teams in proposing, developing and closing project work.

You’ll be reporting into the lead analyst but working with a number of stakeholders within Amnesty International.

About you

Good communication and business acumen. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. An emerging knowledge base of finance, economics and general business and management practice, plus specific experience of prior industries

Analysis.  You’ll be inquisitive of the data, how to manipulate data sets, identify trends and insights and ensuring good presentation of the information we find. Relevant experience of performance measurement and delivery of management reporting at an appropriate level for the audience.

An eye for detail and strong numerical aptitude, ability to be thorough but also has a pragmatic approach with understanding of the need for speed and “good enough” when necessary.

Data Visualisation and presentation abilities.  Able to interpret requirements and present data in a clear and compelling way, using graphical representations and data visualisations.

Research – know what data you need, what form you need it in and where to get it. This can range from simply requesting client data sets, getting publicly available data or commissioning third party market research. If data is not available or compromised, be able to qualify the limits of this data and draw conclusions where appropriate

Great data management skills. You know about organisational data governance and have basic database knowledge. Experience of working with, and consolidating, large volumes of structured and unstructured data, including financial data.  Strong ability to conduct data quality assurance, validation and checks, and be able to QA the data to find inconsistencies.

Knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, reporting technologies and dashboards such as PowerBI.

Research and Campaigns Assistant (part-time 40%, 2 days a week equivalent) – Death Penalty – Fixed Term Contract until December 2021

Amnesty International is seeking a part-time Research and Campaigns Assistant to support research and campaigning on projects related to promoting the abolition of the death penalty around the world, including by playing a central role in the preparation and production of the annual Death Penalty Statistics report, as well as the collection of relevant death penalty related information and data throughout the year.

This is a part-time position (40%, 2 days a week equivalent) until end December 2021.

The Research and Campaigns Assistant functions described in the job description will be shared with another Research and Campaigns Assistant on the death penalty.

Location: London.

About the role:

As Research and Campaigns Assistant, you will work closely with another Research and Campaigns Assistant on the death penalty, legal and policy advisers on the death penalty, country researchers, advocates, media officers and campaigners in the International Secretariat and Sections/Structures to help promoting the abolition of the death penalty around the world.

Among other responsibilities, you will assist the team working on the death penalty with administrative, coordination, research and campaigning activities, including drafting, formatting, editing/proof-reading, and distribution of texts. You will also undertake year-round monitoring, from media and other sources, of death sentences and executions around the world, in order to provide the data for the annual ‘Death Sentences and Executions’ report, as well as coordinate and contribute to the production of this report and its accompanying communication materials.

Other responsibilities will include supporting the production of advocacy materials and organisation of events or campaign moments, including for example the World Day Against the Death Penalty, and the World Congress Against the Death Penalty, as well as supporting the planning, organisation, and coordination of field advocacy and other relevant death penalty related missions and travel and campaign activities. You will also be in charge of developing, maintaining and managing death penalty related administrative and communications systems.

About you:

You will have good knowledge of issues around the death penalty and understanding of human rights issues. Experience in research, advocacy and campaigning will be an additional advantage. You will also have the ability to draft clearly and concisely and proof-read research, campaign and advocacy materials, as well as experience of establishing and maintaining office systems and coordinating an efficient flow of communications and information. You will have experience of information management, including the creation and maintenance of electronic databases.

Outstanding written and verbal English is essential, and the ability to work to a high professional level in French or Arabic will be an advantage.

About the role

Working within the dedicated supporter communications team, you will respond to correspondence from Amnesty supporters, activists and the general public, on a wide range of human rights topics. You will be accountable for maintaining supporter records ensuring that information held is both accurate, up-to-date and GDPR compliant. You will also be required to process and bank supporter income, therefore an understanding of key financial processes including direct debits and gift aid is essential.
